If you have recently gone through a hernia surgery, then it may take months for the healing to take place. In addition, you have to cut down your physical activity to prevent any injury to the abdominal wall. If the healing process fails, you need another surgery.

Usually, thinning or stretching of scar tissue happen after the surgery. For healing, doctors place a hernia patch to repair ventral (incisional) hernias and support the edges of the hernia after the surgery.

If you are old and have an enlarged prostate, you should expect difficulty in urination after the operation. Usually, the doctor will insert a catheter into your bladder to solve this problem.

In late December 2005, Davol, Inc., recalled Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch because it caused abdominal pain, chronic enteric fistulas and bowel perforation. The FDA received at least 80 reports that blamed this hernia patch for being responsible for serious injury, including death. So can hernia patch affect the prostate? So far, there are no official reports for such incident.

I found two blog comments, which relate to prostate problems due to the use of Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch. The former experienced prostate problems when he used the patch 13 years ago. The latter had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2004. 3 years later, he had prostate problems.

Beside Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch, probably other brands of hernia patches or product codes of Kugel Mesh Patch have no effect on your prostate. However, you should consult your doctor for more information.
